For residents of the St Albans area, please note the following letter from Network Rail:

I am writing to inform you that Network Rail needs to complete works affecting railway operations near to your property, as part of our Railway Upgrade Plan to deliver a better railway for Britain.

Works will be undertaken from

  • 2200 – 0600 Monday 13th June to Friday 17th June 2016
  • 2200 –  0600 Monday 20th June to Friday 24th June 2016
  • 2200 – 0600 Monday 27th June to Friday 1st July 2016

This work will involve taking deliver of rails, transporting rails and materials to site, changing rail and removing scrap with heavy machinery. It will include the use of lights, generators, powered hand tools and plant machinery.

Safety is our number one priority and for this reason work of this type must be carried out while trains are not running. Under our licence conditions we are contractually obliged to work, whenever possible, at times that cause the least disruption to train services. Unfortunately, this means carrying out a lot of our improvements during the night and at weekends.

The equipment we use means some disturbance is unavoidable, but we will make every effort to minimise any unnecessary noise. Furthermore, those working on site are briefed on working responsibly in the local community.

I hope this information is helpful and we apologise for any inconvenience these essential works may cause. However, if you have any additional questions or concerns, please visit or telephone our 24 hour National Helpline on 08457 11 41 41.

Your sincerely

Sarah McArdle
