The Abbey Flyer Users’ Group (ABFLY) was delighted to receive First Prize ‘Gold’ for Best Website at the annual Rail User Group Awards on Saturday 7th November in Bristol.

Organised by the umbrella campaign group ‘Railfuture‘, the award was presented by Christian Wolmar, esteemed transport journalist and former London Mayoral candidate, to Dave Horton, General Secretary of ABFLY and also the driving force behind the group’s new website which was launched in May.

Speaking of the award, Dave Horton said, “Back in 2014 I knew our website was hopelessly out of date and doing nothing to promote the group. When I saw the results of last year’s RUG Awards, I looked at the standard of the finalists and made it my aim right then to win best website in 2015, and here we are! It took many weeks to write and perfect the specification but then it was handed over to our delivery partner, Primary Image, who have done an absolutely fantastic job in designing a website which, in the words of the judges, is clear about ABFLY’s aims and activities, well-designed and user-friendly.”

“Moreover the website has probably been directly responsible for recruiting around 25 new members to date, and was a crucial weapon in our ‘No2Bus‘ campaign in the summer. This just proves that having a good website is key to any campaign group.”

Dave Horton was also awarded a Commendation under the ‘Best Campaigner’ category.
